Rooms, Rates & Stay Duration

We are now accepting bookings for our 2026 season, which will run from the end of March through until early November – probably (we’ve yet to decide!) with special Festive Season opening, similar to our upcoming Christmas & New Year 2025/26 period for Festive Retreats. Below you will find information on our rooms, the rates for staying, and the stay durations that we offer.

Our basic offering is self-catering retreats and we have a separate Food Page setting out what this means practically for your stay here, including food-shopping options and opportunities to eat out locally. If self-catering does not appeal, it may be possible to have lunch and/or dinners provided at Casale di Clio (eating with the hosts), at an additional cost – please contact us if you wish to discuss this, mentioning any dietary preferences.

All rooms are offered for single occupancy, in line with our wish to provide an environment and ambiance suitable for those bringing creative projects or studies.

Guest Rooms at Casale di Clio

Over the close season 2024-25 we enhanced our bathroom facilities, reopening for the most part with three main guest rooms (Dante, Hildegard and Galileo), each with their own ensuite bathroom facilities! A fourth room (Leonardo) will occasionally be made available in the Summer months.

Dante

Room Dante
Room Dante’s ensuite facilities

Named after Dante Alighieri (of course!), this room faces the Lima Valley, with a view of wooded hillsides, the hill villages of Casabasciana, Crasciana and Brandeglio (and, down below in the foreground, lower Vetteglia).

It has a double bed with side-tables and lamps, large wardrobe, mirror, and writing desk with chair, and additional comfortable chair. Room Dante has its own ensuite facilities (shower, hand-basin and WC) from 2025. The door is lockable.

Hildegard

Named after Hildegard of Bingen (of course!), like Dante, this room faces the Lima Valley, with a view of wooded hillsides, the hill villages of Casabasciana, Crasciana and Brandeglio (and, down below in the foreground, lower Vetteglia).

It has a double bed with side-tables and lamps, large wardrobe, mirror, writing desk with chair, and additional comfortable chair. Room Hildegard has its own ensuite facilities (shower, hand-basin and WC) from 2025. The door is lockable.

Galileo

Room Galileo!
Room Galileo‘s ensuite facilities

Named after Galileo Galilei (of course!), like Dante and Hildegard, this room faces the Lima Valley. Galileo now has a skylight window installed to complement the wall window; both look out towards wooded hillsides and the hill villages opposite Vetteglia.

It has a double bed with side-tables and lamps, large marble-topped chest of drawers (with huge mirror), writing desk with chair, and additional comfortable chair. Room Galileo has its own ensuite facilities (shower, hand-basin and WC) from 2025 (NB, the step up into the ensuite facility is a little higher than for rooms Dante and Hildegard – please contact us for details if you think that this might be a concern). The door is lockable.

Leonardo

Room Leonardo is not generally available, except for during Summer months.

Named after Leonardo da Vinci (of course!), this room faces the Inner Courtyard, though still has views (over the rooftops of the barn and metato) of the upper Lima Valley, towards and beyond the hill village of Casoli. It has a double bed with side-table and lamp, large wardrobe, large marble-topped chest of drawers (with huge mirror), and writing desk with chair. The door is lockable.

The (newly-renovated) bathroom for room Leonardo is a short walk along the corridor – with a bath/shower as well as WC and bidet.

Leonardo‘s ‘permanent resident’ – other rooms have one too!

Stay Duration

Although we recommend a minimum stay of 7 nights, so as to truly settle in, relax, and get the most from your time here, we may be able to accommodate stays of 5 or 6 nights, depending on our pattern of bookings (though there is a minimum stay of 7 nights, Saturday-Saturday, when courses are scheduled). There is a maximum stay of 14 consecutive nights in one block (except by prior agreement), with a maximum stay of 4 weeks in any one year per guest. We prefer Saturday-Saturday stays, though depending on our pattern of bookings we may have some flexibility in this.

2025 Room Rates

All rooms are offered for single occupancy, in line with our wish to provide an environment and ambiance suitable for those bringing creative projects or studies.

We have two seasonal levels of room rates: High Season runs from June through to (and including) September, and includes Festive Breaks over the Christmas & New Year Period; Low Season rates are available for the remaining months of the season (April, May, October to early November). Room rates (single occupancy) are set out in the table below. NB, the first block of 5 nights of a stay are charged at the seasonal rate for the first night of that stay – as set out in the table below – subsequent nights are charged at the appropriate seasonal rate.

Our room rates reflect the basic offering of a self-catering retreat (though we offer a complimentary welcome drink and dinner on the day of arrival); we have a well-equipped guest kitchen with allocated fridge/freezer and cupboard space, and there are friendly/well-stocked food stores and trattorias/restaurants in walking distance. A stop at a local supermarket is included in the free pick-up from the local train station. If self-catering does not appeal, it may be possible to have lunch and/or dinners provided at Casale di Clio (eating with the hosts), at an additional cost – please contact us if you wish to discuss this, mentioning any dietary preferences.

NB – a Tourist Tax, imposed by the Bagni di Lucca Comune, is payable in cash by each guest upon arrival at Casale di Clio; this currently amounts to 5 Euro per person for a stay here (1 Euro per day up to a maximum of 5 Euro per guest).
