Guest Rooms at Casale di Clio

Until such time as we might be able to add to our bathroom facilities, we are only accepting bookings for the two guest rooms with views of the Lima valley, Dante and Hildegard, which share the guest bathroom – we also offer the option of securing exclusive use of the guest bathroom for a weekly supplement of 100 Euros, meaning that we would not let another guest room for that week.

If guests wish to book as a group, however, among whom they are happy to share the guest bathroom, then we can make another guest room, Leonardo, available (i.e., three rooms sharing the bathroom) – please contact us if this interests you. NB, such group bookings are suitable for fellow members of writing circles, art groups, reading/study groups, hiking clubs, etc – we do not let to groups for a general holiday/vacation that will include a lot of partying (this is not a partying/celebration venue – the house has a quiet ambience, with hosts who live in a separate apartment in the same building); we do not let to groups including children.

Dante

Room Dante

Named after Dante Alighieri (of course!), this room faces the Lima Valley, with a view of wooded hillsides, the hill villages of Casabasciana, Crasciana and Brandeglio (and, down below in the foreground, lower Vetteglia). It has a double bed with side-tables and lamps, large wardrobe, large marble-topped chest of drawers (with mirror – another large mirror is wall-mounted), and writing desk with chair, and additional comfortable chair. The door is lockable.

Hildegard

Named after Hildegard of Bingen (of course!), like Dante, this room faces the Lima Valley, with a view of wooded hillsides, the hill villages of Casabasciana, Crasciana and Brandeglio (and, down below in the foreground, lower Vetteglia). It has a double bed with side-tables and lamps, large wardrobe, large marble-topped chest of drawers (with huge mirror), writing desk with chair, and additional comfortable chair. The door is lockable.

Room Hildegard

Leonardo

Leonardo‘s ‘permanent resident’ – other rooms have one too!

Named after Leonardo da Vinci (of course!), this room faces the Inner Courtyard, although it has views (over the rooftops of the barn and metato) of the upper Lima Valley, towards and beyond the hill village of Casoli. It has a double bed with side-table and lamp, large wardrobe, large marble-topped chest of drawers (with huge mirror), and writing desk with chair. The door is lockable.

Room Rates

Room rental rates vary between ‘Higher’, ‘Middle’ and ‘Lower’ Seasons, as set out below. There is a standard weekly rate in each seasonal block, and an ‘additional night rate’ for rentals that last beyond a complete week (or weeks) – our usual minimum booking is 7 nights, although we may consider 5 or 6 night bookings, depending on our existing pattern of bookings during the period in which you might like to stay). If a booking straddles two different Seasonal Rate Periods the cost of the rental will be calculated based on the day rates for each stay in the booked period (e.g. 3 days at High day-rate and 4 days at Middle day-rate for a 7 day rental that straddled High and Middle Seasons).

All rooms are offered for single occupancy, in line with our wish to provide an environment suitable for those bringing creative projects or studies (we might offer double occupancy in some circumstances, for a supplement of 50% on top of the single occupancy rate – see FAQs).

NB – a Tourist Tax, imposed by the Bagni di Lucca Comune, is payable in cash by each guest upon arrival at Casale di Clio; this currently amounts to 5 Euro per person for a stay here (1 Euro per day up to a maximum of 5 Euro per guest).

Lower Season

Our ‘Lower Season’ runs from around mid-January to the Spring Equinox (not including the week each side of Easter Weekend – see Middle Season). This period is the perfect time to come away and start a new project, or resurrect an old one. Although we dip our room rental rates during this quieter time, we cannot dip them any further since we still have the same costs here, including extending the heating to keep the whole house cosy for guests. This can be a particularly special time for quiet and reflective outdoor walks.

The ‘Lower Season’ room rental rates (all single occupancy) are as follows:

RoomWeekly Rate (€)Additional-Night Rate (€)
Dante45065
Hildegard45065

Leonardo
(when made available as part of a group booking – see above)
35050
The room rental for your stay is calculated by adding additional nights to full weeks as appropriate (minimum stay 7 nights)

Middle Season

Our ‘Middle Season‘ runs from the Spring Equinox in March through April, May (including the week each side of Easter Weekend) and then from September through to mid-December – when there will still be some great weather for outdoor walks and adventures – with the likelihood of coming across harvest-themed (foodie!) local cultural events during Autumn.

The ‘Middle Season’ room rental rates (all single occupancy) are as follows:

RoomWeekly Rate (€)Additional-Night Rate (€)

Hildegard50070

Leonardo
(when made available as part of a group booking – see above)
40060
The room rental for your stay is calculated by adding additional nights to full weeks as appropriate (minimum stay 7 nights)

Higher Season

Higher Season‘ includes June to August, and Christmas & New Year Festive Period (roughly, from mid-December to around Twelfth Night/Epiphany/Befana in January) – times when there are typically a lot of local cultural events happening and when demand for rooms is high.

The room rental rates (all single occupancy) for Higher Season are as follows:
