NEW for 2025: More Guest Rooms & En-Suite Facilities!

We are now accepting bookings for our 2025 season, which will run from April through until early November, with special opening over the Christmas & New Year 2025/26 period for Festive Retreats. Below you will find information on our rooms, the rates for staying, and the stay durations that we offer. Payment for any courses that are arranged at Casale di Clio will be made directly with the course provider/tutor/facilitator. For information on group bookings, for members of writing/art/history groups etc. (NOT friends/family general holidays) see our Group Bookings page.
Guest Rooms at Casale di Clio
Over the close season 2024-25 we will be enhancing our bathroom facilities, aiming to reopen with four guest rooms, each with their own bathroom facilities! Three guest rooms will include en-suite facilities (WC/shower), while the fourth will have its own dedicated bathroom, a short way along the corridor. Details and photos of our guest rooms follow – these will be updated as works progress on enhancing the facilities ready for the new season in 2025 (we expect to reopen for guests early in April).
Dante

Named after Dante Alighieri (of course!), this room faces the Lima Valley, with a view of wooded hillsides, the hill villages of Casabasciana, Crasciana and Brandeglio (and, down below in the foreground, lower Vetteglia). It has a double bed with side-tables and lamps, large wardrobe, mirror, and writing desk with chair, and additional comfortable chair. Room Dante will have its own en-suite facilities (shower, hand-basin and WC) from 2025. The door is lockable.
Hildegard
Named after Hildegard of Bingen (of course!), like Dante, this room faces the Lima Valley, with a view of wooded hillsides, the hill villages of Casabasciana, Crasciana and Brandeglio (and, down below in the foreground, lower Vetteglia). It has a double bed with side-tables and lamps, large wardrobe, mirror, writing desk with chair, and additional comfortable chair. Room Hildegard will have its own en-suite facilities (shower, hand-basin and WC) from 2025. The door is lockable.

Galileo

Named after Galileo Galilei (of course!), like Dante and Hildegard, this room faces the Lima Valley. Galileo is having a skylight window installed for 2025 to complement the wall window; both look out towards wooded hillsides and the hill villages opposite Vetteglia. It has a double bed with side-tables and lamps, large marble-topped chest of drawers (with huge mirror), writing desk with chair, and additional comfortable chair. Room Galileo will have its own en-suite facilities (shower, hand-basin and WC) from 2025. The door is lockable.
Leonardo
Named after Leonardo da Vinci (of course!), this room faces the Inner Courtyard, though still has views (over the rooftops of the barn and metato) of the upper Lima Valley, towards and beyond the hill village of Casoli. It has a double bed with side-table and lamp, large wardrobe, large marble-topped chest of drawers (with huge mirror), and writing desk with chair. The door is lockable. Room Leonardo will have its own dedicated bathroom a short walk along the corridor – with a bath/shower as well as WC.

Stay Duration
We have a minimum stay of 5 nights (minimum stay of 7 nights when courses are scheduled) – after that, additional nights are charged at a lower rate than the rate for the first block of nights (see below). There is a maximum stay of 14 consecutive nights in one block (except by prior agreement), with a maximum stay of 4 weeks in any one year per guest. Subject to room availability, guests may choose their most convenient arrival and departure dates (we have moved away from Saturday-Saturday fixed weeks – except where guests are here for a course).

Room Rates
All rooms are offered for single occupancy, in line with our wish to provide an environment and ambiance suitable for those bringing creative projects or studies. In 2025, however, we are considering trialing ‘Creative Couples’ Weeks (subject to demand), when we will make guest rooms available for established couples (i.e., not two people booking as ‘a couple’ just so as to get a better rate compared to booking two separate guest rooms). This double occupancy will attract a 40% room rate supplement on top of the single occupancy rate.
We have two levels of room rates: High Season runs from June to September (and includes Festive Breaks over the Christmas & New Year Period); Low Season rates are available for the remaining months of the season (April, May, October to early November). Room rates (single occupancy) are set out in the table below:
ROOMS | HIGH Season First 5 Nights | HIGH Season Extra nights @ | LOW Season First 5 Nights | LOW Season Extra nights @ |
Dante/ Hildegard | €500 | €75 | €450 | €70 |
Galileo/ Leonardo | €450 | €65 | €400 | €60 |
In 2025 we are considering trialing double occupancy of rooms during ‘Creative Couples’ Weeks (subject to demand), at a 40% room rate supplement.
NB – a Tourist Tax, imposed by the Bagni di Lucca Comune, is payable in cash by each guest upon arrival at Casale di Clio; this currently amounts to 5 Euro per person for a stay here (1 Euro per day up to a maximum of 5 Euro per guest).
